International lion dance act
An integral part of Lunar New Year celebrations are the exhilarating lion dance performances. On 15 Feb 2019, visitors and tenants of Keppel Bay Tower can look forward to a world-class performance by Kun Seng Keng from Muar. The Malaysia’s top lion and dragon dance troupe has bagged more than 100 international championship titles!
Tenants and visitors can expect a freestyle high-pole performance, the traditional custom of cai qing – which literally translates to “picking the green”, a ceremony which symbolises luck and abundance – as well as a God of Fortune mascot to spread well wishes to everyone.
If you live around Keppel Bay, this is just one of the many Lunar New Year activities happening this year. Here are some other activities which you can easily check out.
Chinatown street light-up
One of the top places to visit during the Lunar New Year has got to be Chinatown. Hop onboard the MRT at HarbourFront MRT station near Reflections and Corals at Keppel Bay and alight at Chinatown MRT station, which is just two stops away. Upon reaching, you will be greeted with colourful displays featuring lanterns in the form of adorable pigs and other floral decorations. Catch the light-up every evening from 7pm onwards from now until 6 March 2019.
Celebrate by the Singapore River
If you prefer celebrating with a view of the picturesque Singapore River, there’s also the annual River Hongbao festival held at The Float at Marina Bay from now till 10 Feb, from 2pm to 11pm daily. Highlights include a spectacular display of fireworks – see the schedule here – and an exhibition of Singapore’s history from its early beginnings as a fishing port to the metropolis it is today. Admission is free.
To get to River Hongbao, simply take the MRT and transit to the Circle Line from Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. You can choose to walk to The Float from either Esplanade, Promenade or Bayfront MRT stations.
Bond over rides, games and a stunning flower display
Also located near the Bayfront MRT station is the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival. Check out the amazing rides including a pirate ship and bumper cars, as well as carnival games such as toss-the-ring, smash-the-can and more!
Alternatively, head to Gardens by the Bay to check out its new Spring Surprise display of flowers at the Flower Dome. Held from now until 10 Feb, look forward to an exciting line-up which includes “Carps Leaping Over The Dragon’s Gate” – a stunning LED light show and orchestra performances by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Ding Yi Music Company. More information about the performances can be found here.
Here’s wishing everyone a prosperous Lunar New Year!
