Keppel Land is committed to caring for the local community whenever it operates. The company’s CSR approach focuses on championing environmental stewardship and social responsibility, and it believes that education is key to empowering lives.
In line with this, in early November 2022, Keppel Land organised various activities on Phu Quoc Island in support of education, raising awareness on environmental protection and environment clean-ups.
Keppel Land touched the lives of over 1,000 students through its contribution of four mobile libraries to Ganh Dau Primary and Secondary School. The libraries comprise 1,000 books donated by Keppel Land staff and its tenants at Saigon Centre, which include science reference books and storybooks.
The handover ceremony on 3 November was officiated by Mr Nguyen Le Huy from Phu Quoc City Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union and Mr Dao Huu Tuan, Vice Principal of Ganh Dau Primary and Secondary School, together with Mr Joseph Low, President (Vietnam) of Keppel Land, and the management of Keppel Land Vietnam.
In addition, Keppel Land sponsored 100 books from its ‘R.I.S.E to the Challenge’ initiative, which seeks to raise awareness on rising sea levels and the urgent need for climate action. Produced by Keppel Land, the books have been translated into Vietnamese by staff from Keppel Land, and contain information on how climate change affects Vietnam, as well as the steps that one can take to fight climate change.
Keppel Land also presented school supplies such as backpacks and calculators to 27 underprivileged students from Ganh Dau Primary and Secondary School who have achieved good academic results to encourage them on their learning journey.
On 3 November, Keppel Land volunteers also participated in a clean-up of Bai Dam beach in Phu Quoc, where they collected over 1.2 tonnes of marine waste to help create a safer and healthier environment for the ocean ecosystem.
Over the years, Keppel Land Vietnam has been supporting educational initiatives, including the "Nang Buoc Thu Khoa" programme under Tien Phong's Fund for Young Talents of Vietnam since 2011, and has awarded a total of 75 scholarships to date.
Keppel Land is also a sponsor of the Words on Wheels (WoW) mobile library programme, organised by the Singapore International Foundation. The programme promotes reading and learning among students in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi by providing them with better access to educational materials including books, the internet and multimedia facilities via a mobile library that visits participating schools on a rotational basis.
As Keppel Land Vietnam commemorates its 30th anniversary this year, the company is committed to advancing the sustainability cause in its operations and activities for the next thirty years, and beyond.
