Keppel launches 'Bytes for Future' initiative in Vietnam to enhance digital learning for students

The initiative is expected to benefit over 800 students from the Tay Ninh province.

Tay Ninh province, 17 September 2024 – As part of its ongoing efforts to support education in Vietnam, on 17 September, Keppel launched the "Bytes for Future" initiative, which aims to equip the next generation with the necessary tools and knowledge to thrive in a digital world.

The launch ceremonies, held at Dong Khoi and Bien Gioi Secondary Schools in Chau Thanh district, Tay Ninh province of Vietnam, were officiated by Mr Nguyen Chi Trung, Head of Education & Training Department of Chau Thanh District, and Mr Joseph Low, President, Real Estate (Vietnam), Keppel Ltd.

Under the initiative, Keppel sponsored 80 computers and four air conditioners to enhance the learning environment for students at the schools, as well as donated books to the schools’ libraries. The initiative is expected to benefit over 800 students in the schools.

Both Dong Khoi and Bien Gioi Secondary Schools have been facing challenges in providing adequate resources such as computers for their students, which have impacted the students’ learning progress. Moreover, the increasingly hot and dry weather in Tay Ninh province in recent years has made it difficult for students to concentrate in class.

Mr Joseph Low said, "At Keppel, we believe that access to quality education is essential for building a brighter future for the younger generation. Through this 'Bytes for Future’ initiative, we hope to enhance the learning environment of students in this digital era, especially in underserved areas. We are glad to work with Tien Phong newspaper to bring this initiative to the students of Tay Ninh province, and we look forward to exploring opportunities to extend the programme to support more schools in Vietnam."

Mr Nguyen Chi Trung said, “Bytes for Future is a valuable initiative that not only enhances learning and teaching conditions for students and schools but also plays a practical role in supporting local communities and the education sector. This programme contributes to educational development and effectively meets the requirements of the new school year’s general education curriculum.”

Mr Vo Thanh Tan, Principal of Bien Gioi Secondary School, said, “Bien Gioi Secondary School is located near the border, far from residential areas. As a result, our students face many challenges in their learning environment. Therefore, Bytes for Future is a generous gift that will provide our students with more tools to study, access the digital world, and expand their knowledge.”

Mr Nguyen Dinh Tuong Huan, Principal of Dong Khoi Secondary School, shared, “I would like to express our sincere gratitude to Keppel and Tien Phong Newspaper for their support. Your contributions not only improve learning conditions but also provide great encouragement and motivation for our students.”

Over the years, Keppel and Tien Phong have collaborated on various impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These include the Living Well clean water initiative, which has provided better access to clean water for some 70,000 beneficiaries in the Mekong Delta since 2022; a tree planting programme that contributes to Vietnam's national target of planting one billion trees by 2025, where 3,000 trees have been planted by Keppel to date; and the Nang Buoc Thu Khoa scholarship programme, through which Keppel has sponsored a total of 60 scholarships to valedictorians and outstanding students with financial difficulties since 2020.

In addition, Keppel also sponsored the Words on Wheels mobile library programme, which helped raise literacy levels among students in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City by providing them with convenient access to reading and audio-visual materials as well as the internet. The programme successfully reached almost 38,000 student beneficiaries in 32 schools in Vietnam, from 2011 to 2024.
