Dong Nai Province, 29 July 2022 – In conjunction with the World Nature Conservation Day on 28 July 2022, Keppel Land is pleased to contribute 3,000 trees to the Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve, in support of Vietnam’s national programme that targets to plant 1 billion trees by 2025. This initiative is also part of Keppel Land’s activities to celebrate its 30th anniversary in Vietnam.

The launch of Keppel Land’s tree planting programme on 28 July 2022 was officiated by Dong Nai government officials, together with Mr Joseph Low, President (Vietnam) of Keppel Land. The event, organised in collaboration with Tien Phong newspaper, also saw the participation of around 100 Keppel Volunteers and students from Ma Da Secondary School in Dong Nai province.

Mr Low said, “Keppel Land places sustainability at the core of our strategy. We are committed to championing environmental stewardship and creating a positive impact on the community, wherever we operate. In line with this, we are happy to contribute towards Vietnam’s forest conservation efforts and the global fight against climate change through our tree planting programme in the Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve.

“This programme also enables us to imbibe in the young the importance of environmental protection and sustainability. We hope that they will join us in becoming advocates for environmental conservation as we work with the community to build a more sustainable future.”

Deforestation is a key contributing factor to climate change. Every year, Vietnam loses around 2,500 hectares of forests [1] due to illegal logging, slash burning for agriculture use, forest fires and urbanisation. Keppel Land’s tree planting programme seeks to raise awareness on the importance of conserving forests to mitigate the impact of global warming, as well as preserving forest biodiversity to build a greener and more sustainable environment.

In line with Keppel’s Vision 2030, Keppel Land is committed to carrying out innovative, sustainable initiatives to drive the company’s performance and achieve impactful environmental, social and governance outcomes for stakeholders. Keppel Land has committed to halve its Scope 1 and 2 absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2025 from 2020’s level, and achieve net zero by 2030. It is the first in Asia’s real estate sector to set a near-term science-based target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 100%, in line with the 1.5°C trajectory. Keppel Land has also committed to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 20% per square metre by 2030 from a 2020 base year.
