Double wins for Keppel Land at the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards
Keppel Land Limited (Keppel Land) was recognised for its efforts in environmental excellence and sustainable building practices at the Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards 2022, organised by the Singapore Environment Council. Keppel Land won the Outstanding Achievement Award which recognises the top performer across all award categories, and also topped in the Green Buildings category, which lauds organisations for promoting environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives in their business operations.
The Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards is one of the most prestigious environmental awards in the region, and recognises organisations for their excellence in environmental stewardship. For the Outstanding Achievement Award, Keppel Land was assessed based on the following criteria - systems and management of ESG risks, environmental performance, as well as leadership and advocacy. The award ceremony held today was graced by Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment.
Mr Louis Lim, CEO of Keppel Land, said, “As part of Keppel’s Vision 2030, Keppel Land has put sustainability at the core of our strategy, and we are honoured that our continuous pursuit of sustainability excellence has been recognised by our stakeholders and the industry. With Keppel Land’s positive track record and firm commitment in advancing sustainable development, we look forward to making greater contributions to the built environment through our suite of innovative real estate solutions, as we deliver on our vision to be a leader in redefining urban spaces for a sustainable future.”
Keppel Land is committed to supporting the global fight against climate change as well as Singapore’s sustainability efforts, including the Singapore Green Plan 2030. The company has committed to halve its absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2025 from a 2020 base year and achieve net zero by 2030. It is the first in Asia’s real estate sector to set a near-term science-based target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 100%. In addition, Keppel Land has also committed to reducing Scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 20% per square metre by 2030 from a 2020 base year.
Keppel Land was the first company to have two Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Super Low Energy/Zero Energy commercial buildings in Singapore, for the Keppel Towers redevelopment in 2021 and Keppel Bay Tower in 2020 respectively. Scheduled for completion in 2024, the Keppel Towers redevelopment will be transformed into a smart and Super Low Energy building with innovative technologies. As for Keppel Bay Tower, a Green Mark Platinum Zero Energy building, it had undergone extensive asset enhancement leveraging new emerging technologies, providing an industry-first example of how existing commercial buildings can be turned into green, or even zero energy buildings.
As at end-2021, Keppel Land had garnered a total of 89 BCA Green Mark Awards across its properties in Singapore and the region, including one Platinum Zero Energy, one Platinum Super Low Energy and 16 Platinum Awards.
