Keppel reinforced its commitment to safety with 18 awards clinched at this year’s Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Awards, organised by the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council and Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore.
Mr R K Jaggi, General Manager, Group Health, Safety and Environment, Keppel Corporation, said, "In line with Keppel’s Vision 2030, we have placed sustainability at the core of our strategy and are committed to delivering solutions for sustainable urbanisation safely and responsibly. Across our operations, we proactively foster a culture of safety, leverage technology, harness innovation and work with all our stakeholders across the Group to enhance our safety systems and processes.
“With the challenges posed by COVID-19, the Keppel Group placed great emphasis on the health and safety of our staff and other stakeholders by ensuring that all relevant safe management measures are strictly observed, to minimise the spreading of the coronavirus.”
Of the 18 awards, Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) received 13 awards under the Safety and Health Award Recognition for Projects (SHARP) category for exemplary project safety and health management systems.
Keppel DHCS and Keppel O&M (New Builds Division) clinched the WSH Performance (Silver) Award for outstanding safety performance and implementation of strong WSH management systems.
Keppel O&M (Conversions & Repairs Division) was awarded the WSH Innovation Award for developing the Turn Table device, which is capable of holding and rotating loads of up to 23 tonnnes. The device improved the maneuverability of heavy loads during shifting and lifting operations, significantly reducing the risks associated with workers being exposed to suspended loads. It also enhanced productivity by saving the time and manpower required for such operations by around 50%.
At the individual level, Mr David Madalamuthu, Facility Superintendent from Keppel O&M (New Builds Division) and Mr Shaikh Mamun, Supervisor (Electrical) at Alpine Engineering Services clinched the WSH Award for Supervisors for their strong commitment to the safety of workers under their charge.
Over the years, Keppel has strengthened its safety culture through investing in safety training and education. In 2020, the Group invested approximately $22 million in enhancing safety-related infrastructure, upgrading systems and building knowledge and skillsets.
Keppel is also leveraging technology and innovation to digitally transform the way safety is managed. For example, Keppel is rolling out an integrated safety management system with GOARC, an artificial intelligence safety platform provider, which enables the digitisation and automation of processes such as hazard reporting, incident management, safety inspections and daily safety meetings, thus enhancing efficiency and data analysis.
