Retained MSCI AAA ESG rating and remains in DJSI World and Asia Pacific Indices 2023
Keppel Corporation (Keppel) has retained the highest AAA rating in the 2023 Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings[1] and remains as a constituent of both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index (DJSI Asia Pacific) 2023.
The MSCI ESG ratings measure companies' resilience to long-term ESG risks and rate companies on a scale of AAA to CCC, according to their exposure to industry-specific ESG risks and the ability to manage those risks relative to peers. Besides retaining the triple-A rating, Keppel was also rated as an industry leader in the area of labour management and among the top 5 industry leaders in the area of opportunities in clean tech.
Keppel is included in the MSCI All Country World Index (ACWI), which is MSCI’s flagship global equity index, as well as the MSCI World ESG Leaders Index.
Keppel has also been included as a constituent of the DJSI World and Asia Pacific Indices 2023 for the second consecutive year. The DJSI World Index represents the top 10% of the largest 2,500 companies in the S&P Global Broad Market Index, while the DJSI Asia Pacific Index represents the top 20% of the 600 largest companies in the Asia-Pacific developed region in the S&P Global Broad Market Index, based on long-term economic and governance, environmental as well as social criteria.
Published by S&P Global, the DJSI indices utilise an integrated assessment of governance and economic, environmental and social criteria to select best-in-class companies with a strong focus on long-term shareholder value. The indices serve as best-in-class benchmarks for investors who integrate sustainability considerations into their investment portfolios.
Mr Ho Tong Yen, Chief Sustainability Officer of Keppel, said, “Keppel is honoured to retain the highest AAA rating in the MSCI ESG Ratings assessment as well as included in both the DJSI World and DJSI Asia Pacific Indices. They are an affirmation of Keppel’s strategy to both run our business sustainably and make sustainability our business, by investing in and creating solutions which contribute to creating a sustainable future.”
In addition to the MSCI and DJSI, Keppel is also a component of the FTSE4Good Index maintained by the Financial Times Stock Exchange Group, the iEdge SG ESG Leaders Index, iEdge SG ESG Transparency Index and iEdge Singapore Low Carbon Indices by the Singapore Exchange, as well as the Euronext Vigeo World 120 by Euronext, the primary exchange in the Eurozone.
In October 2023, Keppel also received the President’s Award for the Environment, the highest environmental accolade for individuals, educational institutions and organisations that have made outstanding contributions towards the environment and sustainability, as well as building a climate-resilient future for Singapore.
