Keppel Ltd. (Keppel) has been conferred the Impact Enterprise of the Year for Large Enterprises at the Sustainability Impact Awards 2025 for “riding structural trends in climate change and renewable energy as part of its business transformation”.
Jointly presented by The Business Times and UOB, with the Centre for Governance and Sustainability at the National University of Singapore Business School as the knowledge partner, the Sustainability Impact Awards aim to recognise individuals and corporates in Singapore that demonstrate leadership in sustainability. The award was conferred at a ceremony today by Guest of Honour, Minister for National Development, Mr Chee Hong Tat, to CEO of Keppel, Mr Loh Chin Hua.
Mr Loh Chin Hua said, “Keppel is honoured to win the Impact Enterprise of the Year Award for the Large Enterprise category, which is an affirmation of our purpose of creating solutions for a sustainable future. As a global asset manager and operator, we are committed to both running our business responsibly, and making sustainability our business through the solutions we provide.”
Keppel’s sustainability solutions include renewable energy importation; the development of Singapore’s first hydrogen-compatible power plant which will commence operations in 1H 2026; the implementation of sustainable urban renewal solutions to green older commercial buildings while enhancing their value; the greening of data centres through innovative concepts such as floating data centres, which tap seawater for cooling; and the development and operation of Singapore’s first dual mode desalination plant that can treat both seawater and freshwater, thus contributing to Singapore’s water security and climate resilience, among others.
Reflecting its commitment to decarbonisation, Keppel has been steadily reducing its carbon emissions. In 2021, Keppel announced its target to halve its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2030 from its 2020 baseline and achieve net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2050. In 2024, its Scope 1 and 2 emissions have fallen by 81.6% compared to the 2020 baseline. Keppel also tracks and reports on all relevant categories of Scope 3 emissions, and has articulated how it plans to manage and reduce these emissions over time.
Keppel also develops and operates diverse solutions which contribute to avoided emissions for its customers and communities. In 2024, the Company contributed more than 1 million tCO2e in avoided emissions through various projects, including the Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre in Qatar, the upgrade of the Keppel Merlimau Cogen Plant in Singapore, the operation of its district cooling systems in Singapore, as well as its Green Mark and LEED-certified projects.
In addition, Keppel strives to deliver social, economic and environmental benefits to the communities where it operates. In 2024, the Company contributed $4.8 million to social investments and industry advancement, including $3 million disbursed through Keppel Care Foundation, its philanthropic arm.
Keppel’s sustainability performance has been recognised through various indices and awards, including inclusion in the Dow Jones Best-In-Class World and Asia-Pacific Indices and retaining the triple-A Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) ESG rating.
